This page lists the regular room hirers at Tonic Health. All hirers are independant people/organisations who have shown their commitment to operate on a regular basis from Tonic Health.

Please note:

  • All therapists/instructors are self employed, and are not contracted to provide their services by Tonic Health. Therapists hire the room and make use of the benefit of sharing a space alongside other therapists. All our therapists hold professional indemnity insurance, appropriate qualifications and are members of recognised organisations.
  • The work our therapists provide should be seen as complementary to any orthodox medical treatment, and not instead of.
  • If at any stage you are unsure of your medical status and condition, we stress that you seek medical attention at your earliest convenience. As therapists, we do not diagnose conditions - instead we look to treat the whole person as well as aim to seek the common cause.
  • Education, support and guidance will be offered to you in order that you can take ownership of your condition and manage/correct it accordingly.
  • Sadly, due to Advertising Standards regualtions, we are not able to list any specific conditions that each therapy can help with, unless it has been rigorously tested by modern medicine.
  • To book an appointment with any of the hirers, you need to contact them directly.

Emma Barker BSc

Medical Herbalist

Emma BarkerAfter completing three years studying for a Bachelor of Science in Herbal Medicine at Lincoln, Emma achieved her qualification in July 2016. Having completed 500 hours in the teaching clinic as part of her training, she has successfully been assessed in the same diagnostic skills as that of your General Practitioner, plus has studied orthodox medications as well as herbal treatments to ensure that any herbal prescription given does not interact with any medications given by your doctor or consultant.

Emma was introduced to herbal medicine after suffering postnatal depression, for which she found the orthodox medication treatment prescribed overpowering. This sparked a keen interest in the subject which led her to start her training to become a herbalist so that she too, could help improve others health and wellbeing using natural solutions.

As a practising member of the National Institute of Medicinal Herbalists, Emma is fully insured, governed by a strict code of ethics and is obliged to take part in a robust professional development programme in order to maintain her membership. Emma is passionate about promoting natural health and well-being and is very much a community herbalist at heart. As part of her community work she volunteers for Home-Start, a charity which gives advice and support to families with young children.

Glenys Bower-Macer MSc., CPsychol., AFBPsS

Chartered Psychologist

Glenys Bower-MacerGlenys is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council and with the British Psychological Society.  Each person’s situation and circumstances are unique, and so the number of sessions required will vary with their ability to engage in therapy, the complexity of their issue, their motivation and the impact of their surrounding environment.  It is also essential to make sure that a person is ready to engage in therapy. After an initial assessment session it is possible to estimate how many sessions will be necessary, and this will be reviewed regularly with the client. In general between five and 10 sessions will be required. More sessions may be necessary where there is significant long-standing trauma. She offers professional Counselling Psychology Services to adults who may present with a wide variety of difficulties including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety and phobias
  • Chronic pain
  • Self-harm
  • Low self-esteem
  • Abuse (physical, emotional, sexual abuse and neglect)
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
  • Attachment and relationship difficulties

Ellen Cook

Homeopathy, Bowen Therapy

Ellen Cook  I discovered homeopathy when my daughter was young.  She had been unwell for a period of time and nothing seemed to be helping.  We saw a homeopath and due to the treatment prescribed for my daughter her health began to vastly improve.  I then decided to have some treatment for my own long term problems. Again I felt a vast improvement in my health and well being.

This led me to explore homeopathy on a deeper level.  I decided to enrol on a 4 year course to become a fully qualified homeopath.

I became a licentiate of the Homeopathic College of East Anglia in May 2013 and I am a member of the Society of Homeopaths.  Being registered with the society means I have to follow a strict code of conduct.

I qualified in the Bowen technique starting in 2014 with E.C.B.S as I felt I needed to be able to look in more depth at the more physical and structural aspects of the body.

Deborah Howton

Aromatherapy & Hypnotherapy

I have a keen interest in holistic therapies, where the mind, body and spirit are treated together in order to facilitate peace, calm and positive change.

I have been a Masseuse for over 20 years and more recently qualified as a Clinicial Hypnotherapist.

In massage I use a range of techniques from the Swedish and Thai traditions together with essential oils to help alleviate a range of conditions such as muscle pain, emotional fatigue, mild skin conditions as well as all the symptoms associated with stress and leading a busy life.  I have experience of treating women during pregnancy which can help relieve back ache.

I studied Clinical Hypnotherapy at the Surrey Institute under Paul White, a leading clinician in his field.  As a fully qualified clinical hypnotherapist I can help reduce anxiety for a range of situations including job interviews, exam and flying nerves, as well as helping with smoking cessation, fears and phobias.

I also use NLP and hypnosis techniques in individually tailored guided mediations which, separately, combined or in conjunction with massage can help alleviate stress and its symptoms.

I am passionate about what I do, and getting the treatment right for you, this may include an initial brief consultation on the phone prior to meeting to ensure your experience has the best positive outcome.

I am delighted to be joining the team at Tonic Health and will be regularly in attendance every Saturday by appointment.

Tina King RMN B.Sc KHT

Acupuncture

Tina King

Tina completed her three-year Bachelor of Science degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture from the University of Lincoln in September 2011.

Prior to this Tina had a successful career as a Psychiatric nurse (RMN) in the NHS for over twenty years. Working within children’s services and Forensic Nursing before deciding that Acupuncture was the wayto continue helping people to gain and maintain their health.

She was introduced to Acupuncture as a way of helping to deal with a long-standing history of migraine headaches, highly skeptical of results, but found that acupuncture reversed the negative impact on her work and personal life.
Whilst at University she was impressed by the huge array of conditions and illnesses that Acupuncture can effectively help with and by the way which it can compliment Western Medicine.

As a British Acupuncture council registered practioner she is held to the highest standards and principles and has to provide evidence of further training and development yearly.

It isn’t possible to provide answers for all the questions in such a short space but the British Acupuncture council website is a fantastic place to start or you can arrange to have a consultation with Tina to see what can be provided for you
